A Delhi court has ruled that Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and several others are not entitled to receive a copy of the First Information Report registered against them by the Delhi Police. The FIR is related to the National Herald money laundering case. The police action followed a complaint submitted by the Headquarters Investigative Unit of the Enforcement Directorate. The ED shared detailed findings from its investigation, covering the period between 2008 and 2024.

Under Section 66(2) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, the ED is allowed to request another agency to register and investigate a scheduled offence. Once such an offence is registered, it becomes the predicate offence. This allows the ED to continue its money laundering probe.

The ED’s investigation is based on a private complaint filed by former BJP MP Subramanian Swamy. In June 2014, a metropolitan magistrate at Patiala House took cognisance of the complaint. This step formally set the legal process in motion.

Since then, the ED has been examining alleged irregularities linked to Associated Journals Limited and its acquisition. The case remains under investigation.
