Former J&K Governor Satyapal Malik Passes Away at 79

Satyapal Malik, who served as the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, died on Tuesday at 79 after a long illness. He passed away at around 1 p.m. at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi, where he received medical care. Malik was the last Governor of J&K before the state was split into two union territories in 2019. He also served in top roles in Bihar, Goa, and Meghalaya. His time in J&K is especially remembered for the removal of Article 370, which changed the region’s special status in the Constitution.

Malik’s Political Journey

Satyapal Malik entered politics in the 1970s with a socialist background and remained active in public life for more than 40 years. He won his first election to the Uttar Pradesh Assembly in 1974. He was associated with several political parties during his long public career, including Congress and Janata Dal. He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2004. Malik served as the Governor of Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Goa, and Meghalaya. He was known for his outspoken views and frequently made headlines during and after his time in office.
