Heavy rains in Delhi-NCR triggered chaos on Monday, leaving thousands stranded in an 8-hour traffic jam in Delhi and Gurugram. Commuters faced a 20-km-long traffic jam on the Delhi-Jaipur highway. The continuous rains led to waterlogging of roads and disrupted daily life. Social media erupted with frustration, with users calling Gurugram’s traffic “nightmarish” and questioning the city’s infrastructure, despite its reputation for skyscrapers and corporate hubs.
Traffic Jam in Delhi Due to Heavy Rain
Authorities have warned of continued rainfall and advised offices, schools, and colleges to adopt work-from-home measures. Rising water levels in the Yamuna have flooded low-lying areas, prompting warnings and temporary closures, including the Old Railway Bridge.
This comes amid a broader monsoon crisis across northern India. The Monsoon season reports from Delhi-NCR indicate severe impacts in various states. Landslides, flash floods, and accidents have claimed 29 lives in Punjab and over 300 in Himachal Pradesh. This has only added to the horror of this season’s heavy rains.
