Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 15, 2025, departed from New Delhi on a three-nation diplomatic tour covering Jordan, Ethiopia, and Oman. The visit underscores India’s growing engagement with the Middle East and Africa and focuses on strengthening long-standing bilateral ties. The tour begins with Jordan, followed by Ethiopia and Oman, reflecting India’s strategic outreach across key regions.
First Leg: Jordan Visit
Prime Minister Modi will be in Jordan from December 15 to 16 at the invitation of King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein. During the visit, he will hold extensive talks with the Jordanian monarch to review the full spectrum of India–Jordan relations. Discussions will also cover regional developments and shared concerns.
The visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Jordan, adding special significance. The Prime Minister is also scheduled to meet members of the Indian community residing in Jordan.
PM Modi’s Departure Statement
In his departure statement, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the civilisational and contemporary ties India shares with all three nations. He described Jordan, Ethiopia, and Oman as countries with deep-rooted historical connections and strong modern-day partnerships with India. He emphasised that the visit aims to deepen these relationships across multiple sectors.
Second Leg: Historic Visit to Ethiopia
From December 16 to 17, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Ethiopia, marking his first visit to the country. He will engage in detailed discussions with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali regarding bilateral cooperation. Addis Ababa, which hosts the headquarters of the African Union, holds strategic importance for India.
Prime Minister Modi noted that during India’s G20 Presidency in 2023, the African Union became a permanent G20 member. He will also meet the Indian diaspora and address a Joint Session of Ethiopia’s Parliament, where he plans to speak about India’s democratic journey and its partnership with the Global South.
Final Leg: Strengthening Ties with Oman
The final leg of the tour will take Prime Minister Modi to Oman from December 17 to 18, at the invitation of Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. This will mark his second visit to the country. In Muscat, he will hold discussions with the Sultan to strengthen the India–Oman Strategic Partnership, particularly in trade, energy, defence, and technology. The visit coincides with 70 years of diplomatic relations and follows the Sultan of Oman’s state visit to India in December 2023.
