A powerful explosion at the Nowgam police station in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on Friday night left 9 people dead and 29 injured, several of them critical. The blast occurred while officials were testing explosive material recovered recently from an interstate terror module linked to the Red Fort blast case. The police station and nearby vehicles caught fire soon after the explosion, creating panic in the area.

Sources said the explosion happened as a police team, a magistrate, and forensic experts were collecting samples from the seized material brought from Faridabad. A State Investigation Agency team had also reached the station for further investigation. Among those killed were an SIA inspector, a revenue official, and forensic personnel. The seized cache included ammonium nitrate and other chemicals linked to the Jaish-e-Mohammad module.
