Once a respected medical college lecturer, Dr Shaheen Shahid has been arrested in Faridabad for allegedly leading the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) women’s network in India under the banner of Jamaat-ul-Momineen. Investigators believe she was tasked by Sadia Azhar, the sister of JeM founder Masood Azhar, to establish a women-led radicalisation and recruitment network.

Her arrest followed the detention of Dr Muzammil Ahmad Ganai and Dr Umar U Nabi in connection with the Faridabad terror module, linked to the Delhi Red Fort blast. Raids at her Lucknow residence led to the seizure of digital devices and documents, while her brother, Dr Parvez Ansari, was also questioned.

Formerly associated with GSVM Medical College, Dr Shaheen vanished after 2013 and was terminated in 2021. The NIA has now taken over the case to probe her alleged role in aiding JeM’s female operations in India.
