Nitish Kumar Elected JDU Legislature Leader Ahead of His Historic 10th Oath as Bihar CM

Nitish Kumar has been unanimously elected as the leader of the Janata Dal United (JDU) legislature party during an internal meeting of party legislators held in Patna on November 19, 2025. This development comes days after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a thumping victory in the recently concluded Bihar Assembly elections.

Nitish Kumar Set to Lead

Kumar is also set to be elected as the leader of the NDA in Bihar later in the day, ahead of forming the new government on November 20. He will meet Governor Arif Mohammad Khan in the evening to formally request the initiation of the government formation process.

Nitish Kumar is set to take oath as Bihar Chief Minister for a record 10th time on November 20 at Gandhi Maidan in Patna at around 11:30 am.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, several Union ministers, and NDA chief ministers are expected to attend. The NDA won 202 of 243 seats, with the BJP securing 89, the JDU 85, the LJPRV 19, HAMS 5, and the Rashtriya Lok Morcha 4. The opposition parties together secured 35 seats.
