Former Indian cricketer and left-arm spinner Dilip Doshi passed away at the age of 77. The cricketer suffered from a cardiac arrest in London on Monday, where he had been living. Doshi was known as a thinking cricketer and retired from international cricket in the 1980s as he was not happy with the way Indian cricket was being run at the time. He made a memorable debut in 1979 against Australia in Chennai, claiming six wickets in the first innings and finishing with eight in the match. Dilip Doshi remains one of just nine Indian men to take a five-wicket haul on Test debut.

Cricketing legends, including Sachin Tendulkar and Ravi Shastri, paid tribute. Tendulkar fondly recalled Doshi’s warmth and their shared cricket conversations. “A warm-hearted soul like Dilipbhai will be deeply missed,” he wrote. Doshi played 33 Tests and 15 ODIs for India between 1979 and 1983, taking 114 Test wickets and 22 in the shorter format.
