Second Bangladesh Leader Shot as Violent Protests Erupt Over Hadi’s Killing

Bangladesh

A senior labour leader of Bangladesh’s National Citizens Party (NCP), Md Motaleb Sikder, was shot in the head on December 22, 2025, in Khulna. The shooting comes days after the death of Sharif Osman Hadi, a prominent anti-India student leader, who was shot on December 12 in Dhaka while travelling in a battery-powered auto-rickshaw.

His death triggered nationwide protests, with demonstrators demanding justice and swift arrests. Authorities have urged calm while promising firm action against the perpetrators.

Sikder Is in Critical Condition

Sikder, 42, is a central organiser and Khulna divisional convener of Jatiya Sramik Shakti, the party’s labour wing. He was shot at around 11:45 pm at a house in the Sonadanga area while preparing for an upcoming divisional labour rally. Sources says that his condition is critical.
