Delhi has banned the use of coal- and firewood-based tandoors across the city as part of its efforts to control rising air pollution. The decision comes amid severe air quality levels, with the Air Quality Index crossing 400 in several areas. Authorities say emissions from eateries add to winter pollution, prompting the move. Restaurants and food outlets have been directed to switch to electric, gas-based, or other clean-fuel cooking systems with immediate effect.
Air Quality Hits Crisis Levels
The order has been issued by the Delhi air Pollution Control Committee under Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan. Under these measures, open burning of coal, biomass, and waste is prohibited. Municipal bodies have been instructed to inspect eateries and ensure strict compliance with the ban.
