Mizoram is finally connected to India’s railway network after 172 years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Mizoram railway line, a Rs 8,070 crore project, bringing the state its first train service. The line runs from Bairabi on the Assam-Mizoram border to Sairang, just 20 km from Aizawl, linking the state capital directly to the national network. PM Modi also flagged off the Rajdhani Express and other long-distance trains to Delhi, Guwahati, and Kolkata, marking a historic moment for travel, trade, and regional growth.

Bairabi to Sairang: Mizoram Railway Line
The Mizoram railway line stretches from Bairabi to Sairang, passing through Hortoki, Kawnpui, Mualkhang, and Sairang stations. It features 45 tunnels, 55 major bridges, and 87 minor bridges, with more than half the route on tunnels and bridges. Bridge No. 144 near Sairang, at 114 metres, stands taller than Delhi’s Qutub Minar, highlighting engineering marvels through the Himalayan terrain.

Railway Line to Boost Travel
The railway line will enhance travel and trade while ensuring the timely delivery of essentials such as foodgrains and fertilisers. PM Modi also laid the foundation stones for infrastructure projects worth over Rs 9,000 crore, including the Aizawl Bypass Road and Thenzawl-Sialsuk Road. These works aim to improve connectivity, help farmers reach markets, and strengthen economic growth across Mizoram.
