MS Dhoni has taken a big step in legally securing his popular on-ground name ‘Captain Cool.’ The former Indian skipper has filed a trademark application for the name, aiming to use it exclusively for sports coaching, training centres, and related services. The application was accepted and officially published by the Trade Marks Registry on June 16, 2025.

Dhoni’s lawyer, Mansi Aggarwal, confirmed the acceptance of the cricketer’s trademark and shared that it was not a smooth journey. Initially, the Registry raised concerns over potential confusion with an existing mark. However, the team argued that ‘Captain Cool’ is synonymous with Dhoni, having been embraced by fans and media alike for years. The Registry eventually agreed, acknowledging the phrase’s strong association with the former Indian captain.
