On the third day of the fourth Test match against India at Old Trafford, Joe Root played a stellar innings, scoring 150 runs for England. He faced 248 deliveries and struck 14 boundaries. His partnerships with Ollie Pope and Ben Stokes added crucial runs, helping England reach 544. During the innings, Root also reached five important milestones in his Test career.

  • Joe Root set a new benchmark by becoming the first Englishman to score 1,000 Test runs at Old Trafford. The milestone was reached during the early part of his innings.

  • He scored his 12th Test century against India, the highest by any batter. The previous record of 11 centuries was held by Steve Smith.

  • He has now scored 588 runs against Ravindra Jadeja in Test cricket, the most runs by any player against a single bowler in the format.

  • This knock was Root’s 104th score of 50 or more in Test matches. Only Sachin Tendulkar, with 119 such scores, is ahead of him.

  • He now holds the record for the highest number of runs scored in Test matches between England and India.
