Bangladesh’s interim head, Muhammad Yunus, has sparked fresh diplomatic tension after presenting Pakistan’s Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee chairperson, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, with a book titled Art of Triumph. The book’s cover displayed a controversial map showing Assam and India’s northeastern states as part of Bangladesh, echoing radical calls for a “Greater Bangladesh.”
Yunus Sparks Fresh Controversy
The incident occurred during Mirza’s visit to Dhaka amid improving Bangladesh–Pakistan ties since Yunus assumed office in August 2024. This is not his first provocation; he has repeatedly referred to India’s northeast as “landlocked” and encouraged greater Chinese involvement in the region.
