Veteran Bollywood actor Govardhan Asrani, fondly known as Asrani, passed away at the age of 84 in Mumbai after a prolonged illness. The actor, celebrated for his impeccable comic timing, had been admitted to Bharatiya Arogya Nidhi Hospital in Juhu four days ago due to fluid accumulation in his lungs. His last rites were performed quietly at Santacruz Crematorium, respecting his wish for a peaceful farewell.
Asrani’s Timeless Legend
A native of Jaipur, Asrani’s illustrious career spanned over five decades and more than 350 films, leaving behind an unmatched legacy in Hindi and Gujarati cinema. Known for his unforgettable portrayal of the eccentric jailer in Sholay (1975), he also starred in classics such as Chupke Chupke, Bawarchi, Mere Apne, and Chhoti Si Baat. Beyond acting, he ventured into direction with films like Chala Murari Hero Banne and Salaam Memsaab.
