At least 31 pilgrims died when a landslide hit the area near the Vaishno Devi Shrine in Katra, J&K, after heavy and continuous rain. Several others were injured, and authorities have temporarily suspended the pilgrimage to ensure safety. Flash floods have damaged bridges, and fallen electricity poles have made the rescue operation difficult.

Rescue Operation Underway
The Vaishno Devi landslide occurred near Indraprastha Bhojanalaya at Adhkwari, injuring many devotees. Heavy rains also caused flash floods in the Chakki River, forcing the cancellation of 18 trains. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed his condolences and directed officials to provide urgent assistance to the injured. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is working with the central authorities to restore communication and provide relief. Rescue teams are continuing their operations.
Just spoke to the Union Home Minister @AmitShah ji on the phone to brief him about the situation in J&K, especially Jammu province, where heavy & continuous rains have caused a lot of damage and disruption to normal life. Efforts are being made to restore phone/data connectivity…
