UPI New Rules: Pin-Free UPI, Card Payments Without OTP! Here’s What Changes

UPI New Rules

The Central Government is set to introduce new UPI rules to make digital payments simpler and more secure. Announced by M. Nagaraju, Secretary of the Department of Financial Services, at the Global Fintech Fest 2025, the updates will allow users to authenticate transactions using fingerprints or facial recognition. The plan also eliminates the need to manually enter a UPI PIN, paving the way for PIN-free UPI transactions. Users will soon enjoy faster, easier, and safer payments while maintaining strong security checks.

UPI New Rules

Under the new rules, users can verify payments through fingerprints or facial recognition on their mobile devices. Transactions will initially have a cap of Rs 5,000 per day, with the limit to be set by regulators later. Banks will verify all biometric transactions using secure cryptographic checks, ensuring that every payment remains safe while allowing users the convenience of quick authentication without entering PINs for each transaction.

PIN-Free UPI

With the introduction of PIN-free UPI, users will no longer need to manually enter their PIN for transactions. Aadhaar-based facial authentication will also allow users to set or reset their UPI PIN directly through UPI apps. Fresh consent will be required whenever a device is changed, and banks must disable biometric features if a PIN is reset. This ensures that the new UPI rules protect users while simplifying the payment process.
