At the Gaza Peace Summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, US President Donald Trump met Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and asked a question that immediately caught everyone’s attention: if India and Pakistan could ‘live nicely together.’ This moment sparked widespread discussion, with many highlighting the symbolic importance of such a question between the nuclear-armed neighbours.
Trump Questions on India-Pak Relationship
He emphasised the need for peaceful relations between India and Pakistan, calling both leaders “great” and expressing hope for future cooperation. He then praised India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “very good friend” who has done a “fantastic job.” Turning back to Sharif, he smiled and asked whether India and Pakistan would ‘live very nicely together.’
Responding, Shehbaz Sharif praised his role in global peace efforts, nominating him for the Nobel Peace Prize and crediting him with preventing a catastrophic escalation during India’s Operation Sindoor in May. Sharif also acknowledged Trump and other regional leaders for mediating peace in Gaza.
