Test Twenty: New Cricket Format Backed by AB de Villiers, Harbhajan Singh and Hayden

Test Twenty

Cricket fans, get ready for something new! Test Twenty, a format that combines the strategy of Test cricket with the thrill of T20, is set to debut virtually on October 16. Targeted at players aged 13-19, the format packs 80 overs into a single day across four innings. Supported by legends like AB de Villiers, Harbhajan Singh, and Matthew Hayden, Test Twenty is designed to uncover and nurture the next generation of cricket stars while keeping the game fast, fun, and exciting.

A New Way to Play Cricket

In Test Twenty, each team bats twice, like in traditional Test cricket, but the play is limited to 80 overs per day. The rules borrow from both Test and T20 formats, with small adjustments to make the game shorter and more dynamic. Matches can end in a win, loss, tie, or draw, offering players a real competitive experience. This format challenges youngsters to balance careful strategy with high-energy play, helping them develop both skill and creativity.

New Opportunities

The Fourth Format, the organisation behind Test Twenty, is bringing technology into cricket like never before. Motion sensors in bats and balls, combined with advanced scouting methods, will help identify talented players worldwide. Six franchises, three in India and three abroad will feature 16-player squads, blending local and international talent. A Wildcard Pool will give mid-season opportunities to promising players. The first tournament starts in India in January 2026, with the champions crowned in the Junior Test Twenty Championship (JTTC). The project aims to build a global cricketing ecosystem, giving every young player a fair chance to shine and succeed.
