SSC Stenographer Exam New Controversy: Out of Syllabus Questions, Bad Infrastructure

SSC Stenographer

Just a mere day after assurances from DoPT Minister Jitendra Singh, the SSC Stenographer Exam threw the students into turmoil, with out-of-syllabus questions, faulty infrastructure, and alleged protocol breaches emerging as fresh flashpoints. The exam was meant to ideally follow strict guidelines, but at multiple centres, students reported 20–25 mathematics questions in a syllabus-free subject.

Videos showed invigilators taking the exam themselves, exams held in run-down buildings near livestock, and impromptu setups like banquet halls above cowsheds. Malfunctioning computers and thin paper were among several issues that the candidates faced. Candidates and educators accuse the SSC of backtracking on promises they made earlier. Commitments such as centre allocation within 220 km of residence and vendor accountability have reportedly gone unfulfilled.

SSC Mismanagement

Even after prior protests over SSC mismanagement, aspirants are now demanding a complete cancellation of the stenographer exam, a fresh re-exam, and accountability. They argue that these issues reflect systemic decay, not isolated errors. Jitendra Singh had pledged to implement these reforms, improve centre facilities, and introduce better mechanisms. However, this incident left students feeling that those promises were unfulfilled and merely aimed at pacifying the public.
