Former India cricket captain Sourav Ganguly has filed a defamation suit seeking Rs 50 crore against Uttam Saha, president of the Argentina Fan Club in Kolkata, over statements linked to Lionel Messi’s recent visit. The complaint was lodged at Lalbazar, the city police headquarters. Ganguly alleges that Saha made false public claims suggesting his involvement as a middleman in arranging Messi’s appearance at Salt Lake Stadium, allegations he has firmly and completely denied.

According to the complaint, the remarks harmed Ganguly’s reputation, built over decades as a player and administrator. His legal team issued a notice seeking a public retraction but received no satisfactory response. Sources said Ganguly attended the stadium briefly, sat separately, and left early due to overcrowding, with no role in the planning or execution of the event during Messi’s Kolkata visit.
