Sneha Debnath

Sneha Debnath was a 19-year-old student from Tripura. She studied at Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College, DU, and was living in Delhi while pursuing her education. Sneha went missing on July 7, 2025. Her family and friends grew worried after she lost contact with them. She was last seen on the Signature Bridge in Delhi, and her disappearance sparked a large search operation by police and rescue teams. After six days of searching, her body was found in the Yamuna River near the Gita Colony flyover.

What Happened on July 7

On the morning of July 7, Sneha Debnath told her mother that she was stepping out to drop a friend at Sarai Rohilla Railway Station. She made her last phone call at 5:56 a.m., after which she went out. The friend later told the family that they didn’t meet that morning. By 8:45 a.m., Sneha’s phone was switched off. A cab driver said he had dropped her near the Signature Bridge, a place known for weak CCTV coverage and safety issues.

Suicide Note Found

A handwritten suicide note was found at Sneha Debnath’s home, expressing her intent to take her own life. Police said Sneha Debnath sent emotionally upsetting messages to her friends through email and WhatsApp in the early hours of July 7. Her close friend also told the police that she had been feeling low and stressed for the past few months.

Police investigations confirmed that she travelled by cab to the Signature Bridge. Some witnesses saw a young woman standing on the bridge before she disappeared. On Sunday evening, after a massive search effort along the Yamuna River, rescue teams recovered her body near the Gita Colony flyover. The case has raised questions about safety and the lack of working CCTV cameras at the Signature Bridge.
