The Delhi High Court on Friday questioned the defamation case filed by IRS officer Sameer Wankhede against Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment and Netflix. The court remarked that the case, as filed, is ‘not maintainable’ in Delhi, emphasising that the alleged issue must clearly arise in the city for the court to have jurisdiction.

Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav asked whether the web series The Ba**ds of Bollywood truly affected Wankhede in Delhi. The court instructed him to amend his petition to demonstrate that the cause of action occurred in the capital.
The judges highlighted that merely because the series is available for viewing in Delhi, it does not automatically give the court the right to hear the case. They stressed that there must be a clear and direct connection to Delhi for the defamation plea to proceed.
This ruling underlines the court’s insistence on jurisdictional clarity and reinforces that legal cases must be filed in the appropriate location.
