In a major twist to the decades-old Bhopal royal family inheritance battle, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has overturned a 25-year-old trial court verdict, ordering the case to be heard afresh. The appeal was filed by the heirs of Nawab Hamidullah Khan, challenging the earlier property distribution that had favoured Sajida Sultan, the great-grandmother of actor Saif Ali Khan.

The case is returning to trial, with the court instructing that the proceedings be completed within one year. Adding to the turmoil, Khan’s separate legal battle over the Pataudi family’s ancestral properties also took a hit. His plea against their classification as “enemy property” was dismissed, and the deadline to appeal has lapsed. With a potential government takeover on the horizon, the Pataudi estate faces renewed scrutiny.
