Operation Sagar Bandhu
India’s relief efforts include naval deployments, with the INS Vikrant aircraft carrier and the INS Udaigiri frontline warship delivering the first consignments to Sri Lankan authorities on Friday. Additional support has also been provided by the Indian Air Force, including an IL-76 aircraft carrying more aid and NDRF search-and-rescue teams. So far, around 27 tonnes of humanitarian supplies have reached Sri Lanka by air and sea, with more en route.
The cyclone has resulted in more than 123 fatalities, while 130 individuals are reported missing. Nearly 44,000 people from more than 12,000 families have been affected since severe weather conditions began on November 16.
