Fuel, Railways, Aadhaar: Rule Changes Across India From July 01

Rule

Starting today, July 1, several important role changes are taking effect across India. These include public transport, banking, taxation, and environmental policies. The government has introduced these new rules to improve environmental standards, digital governance, financial transparency, and public convenience. Whether you travel by train, use ATMs, pay with a credit card, or file taxes. These changes are likely to impact you. Take a look at the key changes that will come into effect from July 1.

Fuel ban on life-expired vehicles in Delhi

The Delhi government has banned fuel supply to life-expired (EOL) vehicles, diesel vehicles older than 10 years, and petrol or CNG vehicles older than 15 years, taking a significant step towards fighting pollution. The rule applies to all vehicles, regardless of where they are registered. Stations will have to track all fuel rejections and inform customers through a visible notice. The Delhi Police, Transport Department, and MCD regulations will be strictly enforced. Officials will seize vehicles and impose hefty fines on violators.

ITR filing deadline extended

The government has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns to AY 2025-26, giving taxpayers more time to file their returns.

Railway ticket hike and Aadhaar made mandatory

Indian Railways fares have been hiked by 1 paisa per km for non-class and 2 paisa per km for AC class. Passengers in suburban trains and second-class coaches travelling less than 500 km will not see any change in fares. Aadhaar verification is now required to book Tatkal tickets online and will also be mandatory at reservation counters from July 15. Railways will now prepare the final reservation chart 8 hours before train departure instead of 4 hours before.

Aadhaar mandatory for PAN applications

New PAN card applicants must use Aadhaar as their sole identity proof. The system no longer accepts voter ID, passport, or other documents for this process.

UPI and LPG updates

Changes in UPI transaction rules and domestic LPG cylinder prices have come into effect from July 1. Consumers are advised to contact banks and gas agencies for official updates.

ATM withdrawal and credit card charges

Banks like SBI, HDFC, and ICICI will now charge Rs 23 for each ATM withdrawal after the free monthly limit. HDFC will also charge 1% for spending more than Rs 50,000 per month on online gaming and will not award reward points for those payments.

National ELV rules

The environment ministry has started fully implementing the end-of-life vehicle (ELV) policy introduced in April. Automakers, scrap dealers, and bulk consumers will have to register with state pollution control boards and officials will impose fines on non-compliance. The rule promotes responsible vehicle scrapping and reduces damage to the environment.
