Director SS Rajamouli’s blockbuster ‘RRR’, starring Jr NTR and Ram Charan, has once again made waves. The film earned a special mention from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The recognition came as the Academy announced a brand-new Oscar category—Best Stunt Design. The category is set to debut at the 100th Academy Awards in 2028 for films released in 2027.
‘RRR’ gets special mention
In their announcement on Instagram, the Academy said, “Stunts have always been part of the magic of movies. Now, they’re part of the Oscars.” The announcement featured a poster showcasing ‘RRR’ alongside ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ and ‘Mission Impossible’, with ‘Stunt Design Oscar’ boldly highlighted. ‘RRR’s official Twitter handle responded with pride, calling it “the proudest moment for all of us.”

This isn’t the film’s first global recognition, ‘RRR’ made history in 2023 by winning an Oscar for Best Original Song with ‘Naatu Naatu’, also winning at the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards.
