Despite calls for change after India’s mixed Test performances, Gautam Gambhir will continue as head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and vice-president Rajeev Shukla have both rejected rumours of a potential replacement by VVS Laxman. The board has denied any intention of removing Gambhir, whose contract expires in November 2027.

Gambhir’s Mixed Record as Head Coach
Gambhir has led India since July 2024, overseeing 19 Tests and winning seven of them. India secured one Test win in Australia and two in England. However, heavy home losses against New Zealand (0–3) and South Africa (0–2) sparked criticism. He has recorded five home Test wins but has also been whitewashed twice at home.
Looking ahead, India will host Sri Lanka in August 2026, followed by New Zealand, before concluding the WTC cycle with Australia in early 2027. India must win at least seven of the remaining nine matches to qualify for the WTC 2027 final.
