The defamation case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been postponed. The special MP-MLA court has fixed July 18 as the date for hearing the case. The defamation case against Gandhi is related to the 2018 Karnataka assembly election campaign, when the opposition leader allegedly made remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Rahul Gandhi defamation case
The complaint was filed by BJP leader Vijay Mishra, who accused Rahul Gandhi of defaming Amit Shah. According to Mishra’s lawyer, Santosh Kumar Pandey, the hearing was postponed due to the absence of the witness who was meant to testify. The court issued a warrant against Rahul in December 2023. He later surrendered in February 2024 and was also granted bail after depositing two sureties of ₹25,000 each. When Rahul appeared in court on July 26, 2024, he denied all the allegations against him and called the case politically motivated. The court is scheduled to proceed with witness testimony on July 14.
