India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, during his visit to Moscow, announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin is likely to travel to India later this year. The exact dates of the visit are yet to be decided. It will mark his first trip to India since the outbreak of the Russia–Ukraine conflict in 2022. Doval is in Moscow to discuss ways to strengthen defence and strategic ties between the two countries.

Modi and Putin to Meet Again
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Russian President last convened in July when Modi travelled to Moscow for the 22nd India–Russia Summit, where he was presented with Russia’s highest civilian honour. The leaders later met again in October at the BRICS Summit in Kazan. Putin’s planned visit comes amid rising pressure from the US over India’s continued oil trade with Russia, which has led to new tariffs and threats of sanctions.
