Pallavi Joshi Writes to President Over The Bengal Files Release Ban in West Bengal

A bold step taken by actress and producer Pallavi Joshi. She appealed to President Draupadi Murmu to ensure the release of The Bengal Files in West Bengal. She took this step after multiplex chains reportedly refused to screen the film, citing political pressure. The movie, directed by Vivek Agnihotri, is set against the historic backdrop of Direct Action Day on 16th August 1946 in Calcutta and concludes his truth-focused trilogy following The Tashkent Files and The Kashmir Files.

An appeal to President Murmu

Sharing her appeal on social media, she emphasised protecting her constitutional rights and ensuring that audiences in Bengal can watch the film without censorship. Featuring stars like Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, and Darshan Kumar, the movie is slated to hit theatres on 5th September 2025. The controversy has sparked nationwide debates on artistic freedom.
