Mohammad Rizwan Removed as Pakistan’s ODI Captain, Shaheen Afridi Takes Charge

Mohammad Rizwan

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has removed Mohammad Rizwan as the ODI captain and named fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi as the new captain. The decision was made after a meeting between the selection committee and white-ball head coach Mike Hesson in Islamabad. No reason was given for Rizwan’s removal, which comes ahead of the ODI series against South Africa starting on November 4.

Shaheen Replaces Rizwan as ODI Captain

Rizwan led Pakistan to ODI series wins in Australia and South Africa in 2024, but recent poor results, including an early Champions Trophy exit, increased pressure on him. Afridi’s appointment marks a fresh start for the team’s one-day setup. The PCB expects greater consistency and stronger performances under Shaheen’s captaincy in the upcoming matches.
