As Covid-19 cases rise again in India, stricter precautions are back in place. Ministers scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi must now take an RT-PCR test, sources said. This includes BJP leaders from Delhi, who are set to meet him at his residence this evening. The same rule will apply to all officials sharing the stage with PM Modi during rallies.
Covid-19 cases in India
India’s active case count has climbed to 7,121. Kerala has reported the highest number at 2,223, followed by Gujarat (1,223), Delhi (757), and West Bengal (747). Other states like Maharashtra (615), Karnataka (459), and Uttar Pradesh (229) are also seeing a steady rise. Since January, 74 corona-related deaths have been recorded. While most cases are mild, experts warn that senior citizens remain the most vulnerable. ICMR has identified new Omicron sub-variants—LF.7, XFG, JN.1, and NB.1.8.1—behind this surge. Officials are urging calm but remain on high alert.
