Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah will miss the second Test of the five-match India-England series as part of workload management, NDTV reported on June 25. The decision comes after Bumrah bowled 43.4 overs across two innings in the Leeds Test. While he won’t play at Edgbaston, he is expected to return for the third Test at Lord’s, scheduled for July 10.
Jasprit Bumrah out of the 2nd test match
With Bumrah ruled out of the second Test against England, Arshdeep Singh is expected to make his Test debut in Birmingham. All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy is likely to replace Shardul Thakur after his subdued showing in the first Test.
While Sunil Gavaskar had suggested playing Bumrah in all five Tests, India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir stressed that long-term fitness is the priority. Bumrah previously missed three months due to a back injury sustained during the Sydney Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year. England currently leads 1-0.
