Civil defence mock drill will resume from Thursday in four states bordering Pakistan — Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir. Haryana will also conduct a major exercise, “Operation Shield,” on May 29 across all 22 districts at 5 pm.
Mock Drill Part 2
These drills come shortly after Operation Sindoor and a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan. They are part of Operation Abhyaas, launched after the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has directed 244 districts to run drills. Activities include blackouts, air raid sirens, evacuations, and awareness drives.

In Haryana, the goal is to test emergency systems and strengthen coordination between civil authorities, defence forces, and local groups. According to Additional Chief Secretary Sumita Misra, the drills will involve volunteers, youth organisations, and civil defence teams. A 15-minute blackout will take place at 8 pm in key zones, excluding essential services.
