India will experience a landmark in rail transport. The first bullet train could arrive in the country as early as August 15, 2027. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that the Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train project will be completed in the same year. This will mark the introduction of high-speed rail in India.

Segment Wise Opening Timeline Planned
According to the minister, based on the proposed schedule, the Surat–Bilimora segment will be the first to open. Following this, the stretch between Vapi and Surat will become operational. This will be followed by the Vapi–Ahmedabad segment and then the Thane–Ahmedabad section. The final phase will link Mumbai to Ahmedabad.
India’s first bullet train corridor spans 508 km. Of this, 348 km lies in Gujarat and 156 km in Maharashtra. The route includes 21 km of underground track, comprising a 7 km undersea tunnel and a 5 km tunnel through mountainous terrain.
The bullet train’s maximum speed will be 320 kilometres per hour. Once fully operational, the journey between Ahmedabad and Mumbai will take nearly three hours. The corridor will include 12 stations across Gujarat and Maharashtra, featuring modern amenities, business lounges, and passenger-friendly facilities.
