Is Pakistan’s Ex-PM Imran Khan Murdered? Why His Family Is Protesting Outside Jail

Imran Khan

Is Imran Khan murdered? This question has taken over social media across Pakistan and abroad, as waves of unverified reports claim that the former prime minister has been killed inside Adiala Jail. The rumours spread quickly after several social media accounts alleged that Khan had been kept in strict isolation for more than 20 days and that preparations for his final rites were already underway in Rawalpindi.

The situation intensified when the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Baluchistan and Afghanistan Times posted claims that Khan had been killed.

Rumours Spread

Despite the alarming posts circulating online, fact-checkers have clarified that the photograph of Khan lying on a stretcher is actually from November 2022, when he survived an assassination attempt.

Many of the social media profiles spreading these rumours have been found to be fake or based outside Pakistan. At present, there is no verified evidence to support the claim that Imran Khan has been murdered.

Why His Sisters Are Protesting?

The rumours of his death coincided with a disturbing incident involving Imran Khan’s sisters outside Adiala Jail. His sisters, Noreen Niazi, Aleema Khan, and Dr Uzma Khan, have alleged that they were brutally assaulted by police personnel while peacefully waiting outside the prison.

Family Demands Impartial Investigation

The sisters have submitted a formal complaint to Punjab Police Chief Usman Anwar, calling for an impartial investigation into what they described as a deliberate and unprovoked attack. They fear that restrictions on meetings and the sudden escalation of police force indicate a troubling pattern of intimidation.

Their protest is not only against the alleged assault but also against the secrecy surrounding Imran Khan’s condition in jail.

Concerns Over Khan’s Solitary Confinement

Leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf have claimed that Khan is being held in complete isolation, without books, essential items, or regular access to his lawyers. Even the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sohail Afridi, was denied permission to meet him after seven attempts.

These growing restrictions have raised serious concerns among supporters, who believe that information about Khan’s health and safety is being deliberately withheld.
