Why Was Dipu Chandra Das Lynched?
According to police reports, Dipu Chandra Das, a factory worker, was targeted by a mob after allegations of blasphemy were made against him. Without any legal verification or investigation, the crowd reportedly took matters into their own hands. He was first beaten outside the factory premises and later hanged from a tree. Such incidents reflect how rumours and religious intolerance can quickly escalate into deadly violence, especially in tense social and political environments.
7 Arrested After Hindu Man Lynched
After the lynching, the mob abandoned Dipu’s body along the Dhaka–Mymensingh highway and set it on fire. Police later recovered the body and sent it to the Mymensingh Medical College morgue for post-mortem examination. The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted raids at different locations and arrested seven suspects aged between 19 and 46. The interim government, led by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, strongly condemned the lynching and stated that there is no space for such violence in the new Bangladesh. Officials assured that all those involved would be punished.
