Habit of rubbing eyes? Here’s how dangerous it can be!

Eyes

Damaged tissue
Rubbing on the thin and sensitive skin around your eyes might result in broken blood vessels, dark circles, and wrinkles.

Corneal Damage
Rubbing can scrape or thin the cornea, resulting in blurred or distorted vision. In severe cases, keratoconus may necessitate a cornea transplant.

Increased chance of infection
Rubbing your eyes can expose them to bacteria and viruses on your hands, which can cause eye infections such as conjunctivitis (pink eye).

Worsened allergies
Rubbing your eyes can transfer allergens around your eyes and increase histamine production, exacerbating allergy symptoms.

Increased chance of retinal tear or detachment
Rubbing your eyes can increase intraocular pressure, resulting in a retinal tear or detachment.
