A massive fire broke out at a popular Goa nightclub in Arpora village, North Goa, late Saturday night, killing 25 people and injuring 50 others. Most of the victims were staff members, while a few were tourists. Officials said the fire at Birch by Romeo Lane was caused by a cylinder explosion. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and police teams visited the site, and early reports suggest the club had ignored fire safety rules, leading to a detailed investigation.

Government Officials Suspended
Following the fire, three senior Goa government officials, including former Director of Panchayat Siddhi Tushar Harlankar, were suspended for permitting the nightclub in 2023. Chief Minister Sawant said the licences of places operating without fire safety approval would be reviewed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced ex gratia payments of Rs 2 lakh for the families of those who died and Rs 50,000 for the injured. A fire safety audit of all clubs in the area is planned to prevent such tragedies in the future.
