India head coach Gautam Gambhir has expressed strong support for the BCCI’s revised travel policy. The new rule limits the presence of players’ families on long overseas tours. The policy was introduced after India’s 1-3 defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25. It allows families to stay for only two weeks on tours over 45 days, and just seven days on shorter tours.
Gambhir backs BCCI’s new rules
Speaking to Cheteshwar Pujara ahead of the Lord’s Test, Gambhir emphasised that international tours are about representing the nation, not leisure. “It’s not a holiday, you’re here for a huge purpose,” he said. While acknowledging the emotional support families provide, Gambhir stressed the importance of remaining focused on the goal of national pride.
On a lighter note, Gautam Gambhir admitted he finds it difficult to switch off mentally, even after wins. “I already started thinking about the next combination,” he shared. It reflects his intense commitment to the team’s success. Virat Kohli had earlier voiced his disapproval over the new rule changes made by the BCCI.
