The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has recently updated its guidelines on hand baggage allowances for both domestic and international flights.
- Passengers are now allowed to carry only one piece of hand baggage.
- For those traveling in economy or premium class, the maximum weight limit for hand baggage is 7kg.
- Business class passengers, as per Air India’s specifications, are permitted a maximum weight of 10kg for their hand baggage.
- The new guidelines also provide specific measurements for baggage volume. The maximum dimensions for hand baggage are: height 55 cm (21.6 inches), length 40 cm (15.7 inches), and width 20 cm (7.8 inches).
Some exemptions
Passengers who booked their flight tickets before May 4, 2024, are exempt from the BCAS-mandated hand baggage guidelines. They can carry 8 kg in economy, 10 kg in premium economy, and 12 kg in first or business class, as per the previous baggage allowance rules.
