An evening of dreams… and heartbreak. At the 53rd International Emmy Awards 2025, India watched in silent disappointment as Diljit Dosanjh and Amar Singh Chamkila went home empty-handed. Two shining nominations, two chances to showcase India’s finest talent, but the golden statuettes slipped away to others. Oriol Pla won Best Actor, and Lost Boys & Fairies clinched Best TV Movie/Mini-Series.
Chamkila Did Not Receive an Emmy
The film, released on Netflix last April, chronicles the life of slain Punjabi folk icon Amar Singh Chamkila, famously called the “Elvis of Punjab,” with Parineeti Chopra portraying his wife. Imtiaz Ali described the project as a love story between an artist and his craft, focusing on Chamkila’s passion and connection with his audience rather than fame or wealth.
Chamkila, who rose from humble beginnings to become Punjab’s highest-selling artist of the 1980s, faced controversies and legal challenges due to his bold, provocative lyrics. His music, however, continues to inspire generations. Despite the Emmy outcome, the story and talent continue to shine and be celebrated worldwide.
