Divya Deshmukh Creates HISTORY! Defeats Koneru Humpy to Win Women’s Chess World Cup 2025

Divya Deshmukh won the FIDE Women’s World Cup on Monday by defeating Koneru Humpy in a thrilling tie-break match in Batumi, Georgia. The 19-year-old won the second rapid game with the Black pieces after the first ended in a draw. Both classical games had also been drawn. Humpy, a veteran and reigning world rapid champion, made a mistake on her 54th move. Divya took full advantage and sealed the win. With this, she became the fourth Indian woman to earn the Grandmaster title.

Divya Hugs Mother After Historic Win

Right after the final move, Divya covered her face and broke into tears. She walked out and hugged her mother. Unable to hold back her emotions, the touching moment was captured on video and shared by FIDE. Her win marks a big moment for Indian chess and its rising generation.
