Reports reveal that Aliya Fakhri set fire to a garage, trapping two victims inside, and leading to their deaths from smoke inhalation and thermal injuries. District Attorney Melinda Katz condemned the act as ‘malicious’ stating, “This defendant ended the lives of two people by setting a fire that trapped them in a raging inferno.” Fakhri was denied bail during her arraignment in Queens Criminal Court. The victims, Edward Jacobs, a 35-year-old plumber, and Anastasia Ettienne, were friends, not romantically involved. Jacobs’ mother disclosed that he and Aliya had ended their relationship a year ago, but she allegedly continued to pursue him. The garage, where the tragedy occurred, was being renovated by Jacobs into an apartment.
