India’s active Covid-19 cases dropped slightly to 6,483 on Wednesday, down from 6,836 the day before, according to the Health Ministry. Four deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, two in Maharashtra, and one each in Kerala and Delhi. All were elderly with existing health issues.
State-wise Covid-19 Cases
New Covid infections are being driven by subvariants like LF.7, XFG, JN.1, and NB.1.8.1. Delhi reported the most new cases at 65, while Kerala remains the state with the highest active caseload at 1,384. Gujarat follows with 1,105, then Karnataka with 653, and Maharashtra with 489. Kerala saw the biggest single-day drop with 275 fewer cases, followed by Gujarat and Karnataka.

Experts say the recent rise may have been seasonal. Most cases are mild and resemble the flu. Hospitals in cities like Delhi and Mumbai report low admissions, and ICU use is minimal. This phase hasn’t stressed the healthcare system, likely due to increased immunity.
