The Centre is conducting a nationwide Covid-19 mock drill today. The Union Health Ministry aims to assess hospital preparedness across India. This comes as active cases cross the 4,000 mark. Hospitals will be tested for oxygen availability, ventilators, and essential medicines. The focus is on ensuring quick response if cases surge again. Health officials will also check infrastructure like Liquid Medical Oxygen tanks and gas pipeline systems.
Covid mock drill across the country
This move follows multiple high-level meetings by Dr Sunita Sharma, Director General of Health Services. A preliminary drill was already done on June 2 in select hospitals. According to CNN-News18, the Centre took this step due to a steady rise in infections. So far, seven Covid-related deaths have been reported. Two virus variants have also been identified. The government is urging states to stay alert and boost healthcare readiness. The mock drill will help spot gaps and improve emergency response.
