Canada Seeks Mass Visa Cancellation Powers to Curb Fraud Linked to India and Bangladesh

The Canadian government is reportedly seeking new powers to cancel groups of visa applications amid rising concerns about fraud linked to India and Bangladesh, according to a CBC News report. Internal documents reviewed by CBC show immigration authorities considering visa cancellations. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) are assessing measures to identify and revoke fraudulent visa applications.

The report also revealed that U.S. partners are cooperating with Canadian authorities to detect and cancel suspicious visas. A presentation made to the immigration minister’s office described India and Bangladesh as “country-specific challenges” in the visa process. The proposed powers would allow mass cancellations in cases involving fraud or misuse.
