‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’ Review: Kartik Aaryan’s Film Lacks Comedy, Horror and Everything Else!

Bhool Bhulaiyaa

Cast-  Kartik Aaryan, Vidya Balan, Madhuri Dixit and Triptii Dimri

Director- Anees Bazmee

Duration- 2 hours 40 minutes

Ratings- 2 stars

‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’ unfortunately falls flat in its attempt to capture the charm and wit of its predecessor. While the original film, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ (2007), remains a classic blend of horror, humor, and suspense, this third installment feels like a forced extension that doesn’t bring anything fresh to the table.

Premise

The film is shot in Kolkata where Rooh Baba approaches a haunted estate and faces two vindictive spirits, both claiming to be Manjulika.

Disappointing film

Despite a promising cast and the nostalgia factor of revisiting the haunted palace, the film struggles to deliver the laughs that made the first film such a hit. The humor in ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’ feels forced and outdated, with repetitive gags and unconvincing comedic moments that don’t land. The once-funny characters seem tired, and the dialogue lacks the sharpness and wit that was the hallmark of its predecessor. What was once a hilarious mix of slapstick and dark humor now feels like a hollow imitation.

The chemistry between the lead actors Kartik Aaryan and Triptii Dimri i good but even if it wasn’t there, it would not make any difference. While the film does try to push some emotional beats, they fail to resonate because of the weak writing and lackluster performances. The pacing feels off, with long stretches of unnecessary filler that take away from the film’s potential to entertain.

To make matters worse, the film falls into the trap of rehashing clichés from the previous installments without adding anything new or exciting to the mix. It’s as if the filmmakers relied too heavily on the nostalgia factor and didn’t bother to create anything innovative. ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’ serves as a reminder that sometimes, a film doesn’t need a sequel—especially when the original stands as a complete and well-rounded story.

The climax

However, not everything in the film is a letdown. The climax does stand out as a welcome surprise. It offers something different and unexpected, offering a glimmer of creativity in an otherwise formulaic narrative. It’s the one part of the film that breaks the monotony, with a twist that is both shocking and refreshing in contrast to the predictable plot.

Conclusion

But in the end, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’ doesn’t live up to the high standards set by the first film. The magic, the humor, and the memorable performances of the original are sorely missing here. It’s clear that the franchise has run its course, and this sequel doesn’t do justice to the legacy of the 2007 hit.

‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’ is a forgettable sequel that proves there was really no need to revisit the haunted house. The first film remains the best, and this one does little to justify its existence. If you’re looking for laughs and thrills, you’re better off revisiting the original rather than sitting through this one.
