BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla has clarified rumours surrounding farewell matches for Indian cricket icons Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. He reminded fans that both players are still competing in one-day internationals despite stepping away from Tests and T20s. Shukla urged supporters to remain patient, saying discussions about their farewells are unnecessary while they continue to represent India in ODIs. He also highlighted that the retirement decision rests with the players themselves.
No ODI Retirement Yet
Kohli and Rohit ended their T20I journey after lifting the 2024 World Cup and retired from Test cricket in May 2025. Despite this, both remain focused on ODIs. Shukla stated, “They haven’t retired from ODIs, so why talk about farewells now?” The BCCI will plan farewell matches only when the players themselves take the step.
